1. About GAON Chart
GAON Chart is an authorized chart operated by Korea Music Content Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
'GAON' means the center in Korean, and it has a wish to be the center for the development of the Korean music market.
2. About GAON Digital Chart
The Gaon Digital Chart is announced by summing up streaming, Download, and BGM charts. Adding up each area, it is weighted and expressed as a Gaon Index.
As Streaming market gains more weight, proportion of Streaming about GAON Index is also increasing.
According to figures officially released through the 10th Gaon Chart Music Awards held on January 13, 2021, the current streaming ratio is about 14% on average compared to 12% in 2018. (The ratio was 12.7% in 2018.)
3. About Artist of the Year
The annual GAON Chart Music Awards presents Artist of the Year to 12 artists. This prize is given to the artist with the highest 30-day cumulative Gaon Index from the release date each month.
